Estamos en Madrid! September 11, 2007

Hola familia y amigos,

We are in Madrid! Well, are time here is almost over, no free internet, so haven´t been on it much! Madrid is hot. Too hot for me, Kristina thinks it is perfect though. It is WAY too muggy for me.

Our last day in Barcelona was fun, we went to the amazing beach, one of the best in Europe so far! I got a massage ON the beach!!! All these Asians ladies were going around massage, massage, mesaje, mesaje, I got a 10 minute one for only 5 euros. It was cool, but a little weird. Kristina said it sounded really weird. Maybe she had no idea what she was doing LOL. At times I felt like I was going to get the wind knocked out of me, others it was really nice though. After the beach we went to another Gaudi creation, again AWESOME. Gaudi was one crazy ass dude.

We got to Madrid via flying and arrived at our hostel around 11 pm. As soon as we walked in we knew Madrid would be much crazier then most other cities we had been in. Every single person had a huge bottle of beer in their hands just sitting around. Everyone was waiting for the bars to open because they dont until around 2 am. Crazy huh? We were losers and went to sleep early that night.

The next day we went on another bus tour, this one SUCKED. Madrid is no where as cool as Barcelona, or even at the top of the cities we have seen. It is hard to impress us now with all of the cities we have been to. There is not much to do here in Madrid, a TON of museums, I hate art, the uncultured one I am, Kristina is not too big of a fan, but likes it more then I do.

After the bus tour we went somewhere, but I don´t remember so it must not have been that cool.

Later that night, we went on a pub crawl! It was 10 euros for 4 free shots, entrance into a salsa club and 4 bars. We were out till 6 AM, thats right 6 AM. But it is easy to do when they dont open till 2!! We met someone who goes to Western!! For those of you who don´t know, that is the school Kristina just graduated from, its in Bellingham. He was on the pub crawl with us, what are the odds of meeting someone who goes to the same school as her? He was originally from Bellevue. We hung out with 3 other Americans and a girl from Norway traveling all by herself for 10 months!! It was a really fun night, not so much the next day...

Our next day in Madrid was pretty much a waste. I was in bed most of it, haha. We did go to a cool garden though and were going to go to a Flamenco dinner thing, but the info was all wrong that we had, so it didnt work out ) :

Today we went to a castle outside of Madrid. Well, it was the smallest castle we have ever seen. It literally took us about 30 min to see the entire thing, it was the size of a largish house, we should have known when it was only 2 euros. Damn Rick Steves and all of his dumb reccomendations!!!

After that we went to an open market and shopped a lot. We bought some cool stuff, mainly jewelry, it was really cheap.

After that, we went to a huge huge beautiful park in the center of Madrid, some King built it because he was bored.

Tonight I decided to be adventurous and try authentic Spanish cuisine. The plan was tapas first, then paella. I got a cheese tapa and it was only 2 something, so I thought, couldn´t hurt. I got a piece of cheese and tiny hard breadsticks like the kind that come in handi snacks!!! It was dumb. After that I was dissapointed, so I decided I would save the paella for another night and get some KFC. Of course, no chicken. Eating for me has been quite difficult. I want a hamburger SOO bad, but I will not cave...yet.

Tomorrow, we are going to the Royal Palace, the Prado museum (art..yay!) and back to the awesome park. There is really like nothing to do in this city. 4 days was WAAAAY too much time here, we are sad we wont have more time in Southern Spain or could have had another day in Barcelona. Boo to Madrid, it is not very fun, and nothing much to do!! Barcelona, we both think, is one of our favorite cities in all of Europe, it has everything for everyone. We both highly reccommend it. But not Madrid, lots of urban sprawl.

I think that might be all for now, I am really tired, so my brain is not remember all we have done. Tomorrow we fly to Jerez (cadiz, southern spain) and see Erin!!!

Talk to you all soon!

Adios!
