Hey everyone,
I made it to Barcelona. Flights were ok, long, lots of turbulence and the circulated air bothered my nose and throat. Oh, and some kid puked in the row next to me, that was awesome and smelled great.
I found my way into the city from the airport but after getting off the metro I had a lot of problems finding my hostel and had to ask a ton of people if they knew where the address was at. I eventually found it and was told I wouldn´t be able to check in until 3, normally it was at noon, and it was 11:30 at the time, so I was pretty irritated because I am exhausted and wanted to sleep. I went out and wandered aimlessly for a few hours, I didn´t have a map so I didn´t want to go too far.
The architecture here is AMAZING. It is so different from one building to the next, you have a contemporary building next to an old beautiful building next to a crazy magenta and blue building. I took a ton of pictures of buildings today.
I also sat on a bench and ate some corn nuts for awhile and just people watched. I think we are in a not so turisty area because I have yet to see ONE McDonalds, which is crazy, because in the rest of Europe they were like Starbucks on every corner. I kept seeing signs, but to my loss I could not find a McDonalds. I could only find restaurants and I didn´t want to eat in one alone so I just kept walking around. By that time it was nearing three so I headed back to the hostel so I could crash because I am sick and exhausted. BUT I get there and they tell me the rooms are being FUMAGATED!! WHAT?!?! And that I cannot get into them until 10 tonight. I was very angry. So I went out again and sat on a bench in this awesome market place for like an hour, I was too tired to move, so I acted like a bum and laid on a bench.
On my way back to the hostel I got lost, really lost, because I was all turned around from laying down for too long. I eventually found my way back, but my brain is half functioning due to a lack of sleep, so it was not a fun little journey.
I came back with bread and cheese to make dinner, haha, cheese sandwiches. And I bit into the bread and it was sweet bread!! GROSS. It was the nastiest sandwich I have ever had. Cheese, mayonaiise on sugary bread...yum! But I at least had a pepsi light, (their not as good version of diet pepsi), but at least Spain has pepsi products, most of Europe doesn´t.
After being pissed off because I can´t sleep or check into my room and after my delicous dinner I decided to take a shower thinking it would make me feel better. Well, that didn´t pan out well. The stupid showers literally only stay on for 10 seconds. So you have to press it constantly to shower, and they were all nasty and moldy.
So that brings me to now, I feel sick, my throat hurts, I am sneezing like crazy and my nose is running and I think I have a fever. I haven´t slept in like 36 hours (other then crap sleep on a plane) and I can´t go to sleep and I have no medicine! I brought an entire medicine cabinet with me last year, and this year I brought nothing because I threw all my crap away last year. I went into every drugstore I saw to look for cold medicine, but no luck. It was prob the pukey kid who got me sick.
Hopefully I can get into the room soon, or I think I am just gonna curl up on the floor.
Oh, and I lost my credit card. yay!
Suprisingly, not a lot of people (or hardly any really) speak English. We had no problem throughout Europe last year relying on English so I was really suprised when I got here. Thankfully I know Spanish or I would be screwed. Except some people here speak Catalan, and I haven´t a clue how to speak that. It took me an hour to buy a phone card earlier until I found someone who spoke Spanish, all the others spoke Catalan.
Hopefully Kristina made it on her flight and gets here soon, then I can have someone to bitch too, haha. But I suppose she will also be just as exhausted because she has been traveling forever. Maybe I will suprise her with a delicious sweet cheese sandwich...haha.
Tomorrow will be better, sleeping will help. Barcelona seems like an amazing city, I just haven´t had the will power to go out and really look at it because I am just so exhausted. I am excited to get out there and see the rest of the weird architecture!!
So I got off to a bit of a crazy start, hopefully it will be less crazy from here on out, but, it is me, so who knows!!!
I have free internet at my hostel, so I will write more tomorrow prob.
Talk to you all later!!
Love,
Kimberly
P.S. It is really hot here, and it is raining in Seattle prob, haha!!! j/k...
